What to expect
Wachau Vineyard Walk – this diverse circular hike takes us through the charming wine village of Spitz, past picturesque vineyards with breathtaking views of the Danube, and up to the historic ruins of Hinterhaus Castle. For those looking for an extra challenge, climbing the 1000-Eimer-Berg offers another spectacular panorama over Spitz, the river, and the surrounding hills.
Part of the trail follows the Spitzer Weinweg, where we’ll gain fascinating insights into the region’s winemaking traditions. In autumn, wild apples, walnuts, and grapes can be found along the way, adding a seasonal treat to our adventure. If we’re lucky, we might even come across a local festival on a spring or fall weekend, offering a taste of regional culture and cuisine.
This hike is particularly flexible, making it perfect for both beginners and experienced hikers. While the full route takes around 3 hours, it can be shortened to just 2 hours for a more leisurely experience. Whether you’re seeking stunning views, cultural discoveries, or a relaxing walk through vineyards, this hike has something for everyone.
After the hike, we can try some local food and wine of the region (optional), before heading back to Vienna. Commuting time from/to Vienna is approx. 2,5 hours.
